MOZYR, 7 June (BelTA) - The new Union State program on mitigating the Chernobyl impact designed to run until 2016 will be based on the recommendations of scientists, BelTA learned from Ivan Bambiza, the Union State Deputy Secretary, member of the Permanent Committee.
Ivan Bambiza took part in the permanent seminar on the issues of sustainable development of the Chernobyl-hit territories at the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly.
According to the source, scientists made a plenty of interesting proposals. Soon, these proposals will be summarized. Then the Union State lawmakers will determine the main areas of activity of the two countries in the area of mitigating the impact of the Chernobyl disaster,” said Ivan Bambiza.
In his view, it is important to continue monitoring the health status of people living in the contaminated areas and to continue recovery effort in the territories, especially on agricultural and forest lands. “We should also carry out more research, including on the effects of small doses of radiation on humans, identify clear criteria that will define the causes of diseases related to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant,” Ivan Bambiza said.
The seminar, which was held in Mozyr on 5-6 June, focused on the issues associated with the development of the areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
