Today a regatta started in Gomel. The prizes are provided by the National Olympic Committee.
NOC Gomel region department deputy head Igor Ryapolov told BelTA, such sailing match is held in Gomel region only. This year it gathered 40 sportsmen aged 7-65. Within eight days the participants will have to sail 420 km on the route “Gomel-Loyev-Kamarin-Nizhniye Zhary”. The competitions are held for such yacht types as “Micro”, “Finn” and “470”.
According to Igor Ryapolov, the race aims at popularising the sailing sport and improving the skills of the participants as well as patriotic education of children and the youth. During the race the young sportsmen will visit places of military glory and museums.
