Piotr Miklashevich: work on detecting crimes should be intensified in Gomel oblast

The work on detecting crimes should be intensified in Gomel oblast, Prosecutor General of Belarus Piotr Miklashevich stated today in the course of his working trip to Gomel oblast when commenting upon results of the work of the oblast procuracy bodies. Piotr Miklashevich called crime reduction tendencies registered in the region a positive result achieved by the local procuracy bodies. At the same the Prosecutor General drew attention to the annual growth of the number of unsolved crimes. For example, in 2005 the local procuracy bodies failed to detect 12,9 thousand crimes and in 2006 – 13,6 thousand. On the whole, the crime detection rate made about 60%. Speaking about the primary tasks set before the regional procuracy, Piotr Miklashevich stressed the need to enhance efficiency of the work of the operational investigative units, officers of the procuracy bodies and investigators. According to him, “every person who committed a crime should be held criminally liable”.
