Russian food watchdog suggests common control system at Belarusian-Polish border

Belarus and Russia are developing cooperation in the phytosanitary and veterinary control field. A delegation of Russian sanitary services led by head of the Russian Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision Sergei Dankvert arrived in the Gomel oblast on April 17. The head of the Russian delegation told BelTA, sanitary services of the two countries should work out a common system for controlling products that are imported to Russia via the Belarusian-Polish border, in particular, a common approach to examining them. “There are risk commodities that need examination and there are those it is not necessary to examine,” he explained. “In particular, control should be exercised over products of European suppliers. We signed a memorandum, according to which they undertake to comply with Russian Federation requirements for residual content of substances in vegetable products. The requirements were not complied earlier.” As far as cooperation of sanitary services at the Belarusian-Russian border is concerned, according to Sergei Dankvert many things should be simplified, in particular, the legal base, which regulates paperwork. It will allow facilitating the transportation of small volumes of cargo via the border. On April 17 the Russian delegation will visit the Krasny Kamen border checkpoint at the Belarusian-Russian border.
