Some 1.8 million sq. m. of housing to be built in Gomel in 2008-2012
A total of 1.8 million square meters of housing will be built in Gomel in 2008-2012. This target is envisaged in the housing construction programme approved by the Gomel Council of deputies.
The construction of housing in Gomel will be increased from 230,000 square meters in 2008 to 500,000 square meters in 2012, which will help reduce the time on the waiting lists down to 6 or 7 years.
The construction industry modernisation programme and building up the capacities of the design organisations will contribute to meeting the targets.
Along with high-rise construction, building individual houses is on the roll, too. It accounts for 30% of the general areas built. Houses are being built in the villages Novaya Zhizn, Khutor, Khimy, Pribor, residential district No 15. Considering the increased demand for land plots, the issue of expanding the boundaries of Gomel will be considered soon. It is planned to include Berezki, Romanovichi, Mayak, Pokaliubichi and other settlements into the boundaries of the town. The capacity of these areas is estimated at 2 million square meters.
