Southern regions of Gomel oblast commence harvesting cereals
Southern regions of Gomel oblast of Belarus have started harvesting cereals.
As head of the department for plant growing of the committee for agriculture and food of Gomel oblast executive committee Mikhail Kolesnikov said, most regions have plunged into hard work. First to start were the Khoiniki, Oktyabrskiy and Rechitsa regions of the oblast.
According to him, this year the major harvest campaign started one week earlier than usually. This was caused by extremely hot summer. Because of the shortage of rain many crops faded, first of all, oats. It is oats fields that are being harvested in first place now. As the head of the department said, next week practically all regions of Gomel oblast will join the campaign.
As Mikhail Kolesnikov added, this season agrarians are set to harvest 368,1 thousand tons of cereals and leguminous plants, 105 per cent as against last year’s level. The spring wheat crops, leguminous, corn and grain crops were significantly expanded. At the same time personal household plots and private farms have reduced their crops to 98 per cent comparing with last year.
