Zhlobin may twin with Serbia’s Smederevo

GOMEL, 15 November (BelTA) - Zhlobin may twin with a town in Serbia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Serbia Vladimir Chushev announced today in Zhlobin, during a visit of a Serbian business delegation to Belarusian Steel Works. Smederevo is one of the main industrial centers in Serbia. As is Zhlobin, it is home to the country’s largest steel works. Both towns are located on big rivers: one on the Danube, the other on the Dnieper. According to Vladimir Chushev, the proposal of the Serbian side on cooperation has already been conveyed to the authorities of Gomel Oblast. Representatives of the business community of central Serbia and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and top mangers of Belarusian Steel Works discussed possible cooperation. In particular, Director of Veltrans company Velizar Marik expressed interest in purchasing Belarus-made fittings. The specialists of the plant invited the company to participate in electronic tenders. The guests from Serbia were also given a guided tour of the plant. In January-October 2012 Belarusian Steel Works supplied more than $6 million worth of products to Serbia. Steel cord accounts for the bulk of the exports. Hot-rolled pipes are supplied in small amounts. The Serbian delegation was in Gomel Oblast on a visit on 14-15 November. The guests visited OAO Gomselmash, Gomel Radio Plant, Rechitsaagroservis and the Free Economic Zone Gomel-Raton. The Serbian delegation also met with chairman of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik. The parties discussed prospects for mutual cooperation in industry, agriculture and services sector.
