About 50 CIS observers to monitor early voting in Belarus

GOMEL, 17 September (BelTA) – About 50 observers representing the CIS will monitor the early voting during the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee - CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told reporters in Gomel on 17 September, BelTA has learnt. About 50 CIS observers are currently deployed in Belarus. All of them will monitor the elections during the early voting period, Sergei Lebedev said. Some 330 CIS observers will monitor the elections on election day. Sergei Lebedev noted that personally he will try to visit as many polling stations as possible. After talks with representatives of district and precinct election commissions he informed that the elections in Gomel will be monitored by observers from the adjoining regions of Russia and probably Chernigov Oblast of Ukraine. “We usually invite representatives of neighboring regions, public figures, politicians and members of election commissions to come and help us and to learn something new. It is a good practice,” Sergei Lebedev underlined.
