Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus worthily performs duties in CSTO, Union State

Belarus worthily performs its duties in its area of responsibility both in the Union State and the CSTO. The statement was made by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on May 13 as he met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) Nikolai Bordiuzha. Nikolai Bordiuzha was on a working trip in Minsk. “Actually Belarus and Russia are the nucleus of the CSTO,” remarked Alexander Lukashenko. “This is why we should resolve all issues in the CSTO zone together”. “We have some problems with the European Union though fewer now. Especially there are many problems in relations with the USA, which, I don’t know why, continues pressuring Belarus,” added Alexander Lukashenko. In turn, the CSTO Secretary General underscored, Belarus has ever been a most active member of the Organisation. “Views of Belarus’ leadership have always been productive and aimed at effectively ensuring both national and collective security,” said Nikolai Bordiuzha. The President of Belarus and the CSTO Secretary General discussed the entire range of topical issues of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation in view of the preparation for a session of the Collective Security Council at the level of heads of state. In 2006 the Minsk session of the Collective Security Council decided to turn the military and political organisation CSTO into a universal organisation that could respond to any challenges and problems. The CSTO head informed the President of Belarus about concrete measures taken to fight illegal migration, preparation of mechanisms to prevent man-caused and natural emergencies as well as about the perfection of mechanisms used to fight drugs trafficking, especially from Afghanistan. Alexander Lukashenko and Nikolai Bordiuzha discussed the situation in the CSTO area in detail. “In some parts of the world, in particular, in the Central Asia, the situation is truly rather acute,” noted Nikolai Bordiuzha.
