Alexander Lukashenko cracks down on forgeries in fight against corruption

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said he will not tolerate provocations and forgeries in the fight against corruption. Alexander Lukashenko made the statement at a meeting with top-ranking officers of law enforcement agencies on 29 June. According to the President, examination of only one Interior Ministry department tasked with fighting against corruption and economic crimes has revealed multiple systemic violations of effective laws, glaring drawbacks in the organisation of fieldwork, including forgeries of evidence, falsification of reports, performance of personal requests of superior officers, lobbying of interests of individual commercial entities and persons. Standing out from the crowd are violations of constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens. Some of the violations were accompanied by illegal criminal cases and custody. The President remarked that deep inside the Interior Ministry a vicious system designed to demonstrate performance by falsifying evidence had existed. Besides, in many cases those in charge of fighting corruption used their privileges to criminal ends. All in all, since April 2009 19 criminal cases against 14 Interior Ministry officials have been filed.
