Alexander Lukashenko: gifted people can advance Belarus to leading positions

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – The support for the gifted youth is a matter of national importance in Belarus and is designed for all talented children regardless of the prosperity and social status of their children. The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko made this statement as he met with the winners of international science Olympiads, competitions and festivals, laureates of presidential funds to support the gifted students and talented youth in the Palace of the Republic in Minsk on 24 May, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service. “While creating our young sovereign state and shaping our unique development model, we relied and keep relying on the spiritual strength and creative potential of the Belarusian people, their talents, intelligence and hard work. An inexhaustible treasury of talents is the real wealth of Belarus, the main resource, thanks to which our country will sooner or later advance to the leading positions in the world,” Alexander Lukashenko said. The head of state reminded that Belarus managed to preserve and develop a network of affordable gymnasiums and lyceums, art schools, clubs, studios and amateur groups working with gifted children and youth. Science Olympiads have become extremely popular in our country. The youth represents Belarus at international intellectual and art competitions, exhibitions and tournaments on a high level. According to the head of state, the special funds of the Belarusian President that were set up in 1994 are designed to unlock the potential of the youth. Alexander Lukashenko reminded that more than 22,000 young people, teachers and teams have become the laureates and scholarship-holders of the special funds over the 15 years. “Once we discover a talent, we do not lose sight of him, instead we help achieve the highs using the abilities nature has put in him,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “Few countries can say that they know all their gifted people by name. But Belarus has set up special databases of gifted and talented youth. The demand for the people included in these databases is enormous,” the President underlined. “You are given all the opportunities for personal growth and refinement of your skills. What matters most is to make good use of the talents and not hide the light under a bushel. The gifted people should efficiently use their talents at home for the benefit of the society,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “If you want to make use of your skills abroad for the benefit of your homeland, I don’t mind it, either,” he added. The head of state congratulated the young people on the completion of the academic year and wished them health, inspiration, success in studies, labor and creativity. Alexander Lukashenko presented certificates and award pins to the laureates of the special fund of the President of Belarus for support for the gifted youth and the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for social support for gifted school and university students.
