GOMEL, 26 January (BelTA) – The Ancient Numismatics expo is due to open at the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble on 26 January, BelTA learnt from the cultural institution.
The exposition will feature more than 50 coins of ancient Greece and Rome from the period of the 4th century B.C. to the 5th century A.D. The visitors will be able to see coins from Panticapaeum, Phanagoria, Olbia, silver denarii and sestertii of the Roman state portraying Julius Caesar, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius and other outstanding figures.
Former owner of the Gomel Palace Duke Nikolai Rumyantsev was a great numismatist whose collection included coins of the ancient world.
The exhibition will display items from private collections of Minsk and Rechitsa.
