Belarus’ CEC passes resolution on establishing election constituencies

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has passed a resolution on establishing constituencies for electing members of the fourth convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly. The parliamentary elections are scheduled for September 28, 2008. Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik noted, as there are 110 members of the House of Representatives, 110 election constituencies will be established. The constituencies will be divided into roughly equal average numbers of electors in accordance with proposals of oblast executive committees and the Minsk City Hall. The average number of electors per constituency has been set at 64,062. “Proposals of all executive committees have been verified. They are optimal and meet legal requirements,” said Nikolai Lozovik. Following these proposals 16 election constituencies will be set up in the Brest oblast, 14 — the Vitebsk oblast, 17 — Gomel and Minsk oblasts each, 13 — Grodno and Mogilev oblasts each, and 20 in Minsk. Borders of the constituencies are supposed to be published on June 26. After that the promotion of representatives to district election commissions will begin. It will complete by July 11. The commissions will be set up by July 14.
