Belarus, Lithuania to set final quota for permissions for cargoes and passengers transportation for 2008

Belarus and Lithuania will set the final quota for the permissions for cargoes and passengers transportation for 2008 and the preliminary quota for 2009. This problem will be considered during a session of the joint Belarusian-Lithuanian Commission for International Highway Service in Vilnius on July 17-18. As BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications, during the session the two sides will share the statistical information about cargoes and passengers transportation via the territories of both the countries. They will also discuss the urgent issues concerning the cargoes and passengers transportation. The Belarusian side will also discuss the issue regarding the allocation of additional quotas for this year. The Belarusian and Lithuanian experts will discuss the simplification of visas issuing procedure for Belarusian carriers. In January-May 2008, Belarusian carriers made 196 nonscheduled and 1251 scheduled trips. In the period under review, Lithuanian carriers made 224 nonscheduled and 1642 scheduled trips respectively. Some 96 nonscheduled buses and 155 scheduled Lithuanian buses moved through the Belarusian territory. The joint commission is expected to set the quota for permissions for nonscheduled passenger transportation for 2009 at the level of this year’s quota. The cooperation of Belarus and Lithuania in automobile transportation is regulated by the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on international motor transportation of June 30, 1993. On April 3, 2000, the two countries signed the bilateral intergovernmental agreement on transit of Belarusian cargoes with the use of the Lithuanian seaports and other transport infrastructure.
