Belarus President: small towns development programme will remain intact

TUROV, 2 September (BelTA) – The programme to develop small and medium-sized towns in Belarus will not be revised or cut, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told reporters in Turov on 2 September. “This programme will no way be revised or curtailed,” the head of state underlined. He pointed out that it is impossible to build a prosperous state without developing the rural areas. The President believes that the programme to develop small and medium-sized towns is a continuation of the rural revival programme as such towns process the agricultural products produced by the rural areas. Alexander Lukashenko pointed out that the employment of the local population is among the major priorities. Before the programme was adopted, this issue had been approached in a rather chaotic way. According to the head of state, the creation of companies like the cannery in Turov in small towns can help solve the employment issues. Alexander Lukashenko added that the country has already done a lot in this area.
