Belarus to host CEB European Championship Juveniles
BREST, 25 January (BelTA) – The CEB European Championship Juveniles (age 10-12) will be held in Brest from 27 June till 2 July this year, BelTA learnt from the physical culture, sport and tourism department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee.
Such prestigious European baseball tournament will be held in Belarus for the first time. In 2006, 2008, and 2010 Brest hosted the European Cups which were a great success. That also contributed to the decision by the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) to stage the event in Brest.
While visiting Brest last summer, the chairman of the CEB technical commission Jan Esselman presented a thank-you note to the governor for the contribution to baseball development and promotion. He also praised the high level of the European Cup 2010 organization and Belarus’ sport policy in general.
Brest is Belarus’ baseball pioneer. The Brest Zubrs club turns 14 this year. At present the club includes seven teams of all ages, the youngest are children from 5 to 6. The club’s teams are repeated winners of national championships and international tournaments. In 2010 Aleksey Lukashevich signed a seven-year contract with the US Pittsburgh Pirates, which became another achievement of the club.
