Belarus will pay off its debt for Russian electricity, Snopkov vows

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus will pay off its debt for the electricity imported from Russia, Economy Minister Nikolai Snopkov told a press conference on 29 June. “Any self-respecting state pays off its debts. We will pay for the electricity we have imported,” the minister said. When asked whether Belarus will continue importing electricity, Nikolai Snopkov said that this will depend on the price for the electricity which is produced domestically and the electricity which can be imported given the economic terms. “If this makes economic sense, then most likely the Energy Ministry will continue importing electricity in certain amounts. If this does not make economic sense, we will not import it as there are enough capacities in Belarus to satisfy the domestic demand,” the minister added.
