Belarusian, Venezuelan scientists to research ways to increase oil yield

GOMEL, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarusian and Venezuelan scientists will carry out joint research into ways to increase oil recovery at Venezuelan oil fields. Specialists of the BelNIPIneft Institute will take part in the research, Belorusneft’s press service told BelTA. The research project will take place at premises of the INTEVEP Institute of the Venezuelan national oil company PDVSA. The research will be carried out following an agreement on cooperation between the two scientific institutions. The Belarusian team that has already left for Caracas includes personnel of the lab for chemical intensification of oil yield. They will bring 25 proprietary reagents, which have been tested in Belarus during efforts meant to increase oil yield. Both Belarusian and Venezuelan reagents will have to be adapted for these technologies and their effect in Latin America conditions will have to be verified. Laboratory and model research using bore specimens will be carried out. The analysis data will be used to increase oil yield at Venezuelan oil fields. In 2008 the Belarusian-Venezuelan oil-extracting joint venture Petrolera BeloVenesolana extracted 680,000 tonnes of oil at the oil fields Lago Medio and Guara Este. Three more oil fields will be included into the company’s assets this year, with plans to increase the amount of oil output. Besides, the joint venture Sismica BeloVenesolana carries out seismic operations in the basin of the River Oronoco. There is another enterprise tasked with increasing the oil recovery and repairing wells.
