CIS okays Belarus’ initiative on declaring year of 2009 Year of Youth

The CIS member-states supported the Belarusian initiative to declare the year of 2009 the CIS Year of the Youth. The relevant decision was taken at the CIS summit in Bishkek, BelTA informs. Belarus expressed readiness to share the results of the implementation of the national Youth of Belarus programme. Belarus believes that the development and implementation of the joint projects on supporting the youth, nurturing patriotism among the young generation, moulding the individuality on the principles of spirituality and morality will be a long-term strategy for every CIS member-state as well as for the whole Commonwealth. According to the Belarusian side, owing to the CIS recent close attention and efforts, consolidation processes related to the Commonwealth integrated humanitarian space received additional impetus while the cooperation in the area has become a CIS top priority. The session in Bishkek took a decision to prepare and celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic war in 1941-1945. The document envisages a military parade in Moscow with the participation of veterans from the CIS member-states, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Anti-Hitler Coalition countries, meetings with veterans, their visits to the military burial places and memorials in the CIS countries as well as outside the Commonwealth, production of jubilee medals The 65th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, international scientific and practical conferences, symposiums, sports meetings and competitions, contests, festivals, exhibitions, memorial events and actions. Some of the events are set to become annual. A large part of the session was focused on the social protection of the participants of the Great Patriotic War. Before 2010, the CIS countries are set to take up measures to implement international agreements on privileges and guarantees for the participants of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945, front workers and families of the killed servicemen, the imprisoned, consider the issue of fixing the amount of a pension for all participants of the Great Patriotic war 1941-1945 not lower than the subsistence wage, examine and take up measures on providing all participants of the Great Patriotic War with dwelling in line with the national legislation. The section devoted to the perpetuation of the memory of the defenders of the Motherland envisages improvement of military burial places, overhaul and restoration of the monuments, exploration works in order to unearth unknown burial places and remains of the soldiers killed during the Great Patriotic War on the CIS territory. The Heads of State also considered the personnel issues concerning the Chairman of the CIS Economic Court, the Deputy Chairman of the CIS Economic Court and awarding several officials with the CIS Diploma in recognition of their work on the Commonwealth strengthening and development.
