Distinguished Belarusians honored with state awards

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) - On behalf of the head of state, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich presented state awards to distinguished Belarusians. The list of award recipients included 78 people. These were representatives of the agriculture industry, forestry, transport and communications, education, health, mass media, culture and arts. When presenting the awards to representatives of the industrial complex of the country, the Prime Minister noted that industry is one of the most important sectors of the Belarusian economy. “The industry generates the main export, main employment, and the main budget revenues,” he said. The Government’s plans include big modernization of existing industrial enterprises and development of innovative manufactures of the fifth and sixth technological paradigms. Addressing representatives of the forestry industry, Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that forest is the most important asset of Belarus. The current five-year plan provides for a more rational use of forest. Belarus will establish large capacities to manufacture furniture, plywood, paper pulp, said the head of government. The forest industry is expected to build up export significantly. Presenting state awards to medical workers, the Premier stated that no matter how difficult the situation in Belarus can be all the funds earmarked for the development of the social sector, healthcare, education and science will be allocated in full. “More financing is envisaged for 2012,” he stressed. The head of government emphasized the importance of the leading universities of the country. “The Government hopes that your graduates will be not only talented mathematicians, programmers, researchers and managers but also people with high civil principles,” he said. Awarding art and cultural figures as well as media representatives Mikhail Myasnikovich expressed confidence that their work would make a considerable contribution into the country’s development. “We believe that your creative abilities and strong personalities will continue promoting the national culture, art and mass media and will objectively reflect the current activities in the country,” the PM noted.
