Dmitry Medvedev signs law on ratification of Belarus-Russia agreement on transit of goods

MOSCOW, April 6 (BelTA) – Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed the law on ratification of the Belarusian-Russian intergovernmental agreement on transit of the goods which are transported between customs bodies of the two countries, BelTA learnt from the Kremlin press service. The law was adopted by the Russian State Duma on March 20, 2009 and approved by the Council of Federation on March 25. The Belarusian side has already ratified the agreement. The agreement simplifies the transportation of goods via the Belarusian territory to Russia and backward. The document establishes the single order for goods transit, customs-clearing forms and transit documents, customs payments. The agreement stipulates the authorities of the customs bodies and also the rights and obligations of the customs carrier. The issues regarding the ban and restrictions on export and import of goods, the order and the methods of exchange of the information about transit of goods will be stipulated by other bilateral agreements. The agreement does not concern the goods and transport vehicles transported by physical persons for personal, family, household and other needs which are not connected with business activities.
