Gomel expected to host Belarusian-German Economic Forum

GOMEL, 25 October (BelTA) - Gomel is expected to host the Belarusian-German Economic Forum before the end of the year. An agreement was reached at a meeting between the Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik and Germany’s Ambassador to Belarus Christof Weil on 24 October. The Ambassador is in the region on a visit, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee. During the meeting the sides noted the importance of the upcoming event. Vladimir Dvornik, in particular, stressed that Germany is one of Gomel’s major trading partners. For example, in January-August 2011 the foreign trade of the region with German companies amounted to $1.14 billion, up 4 times from the same period last year. The trade between Belarus and Germany accounts for almost 40% of the total trade. In turn, Christof Weil said that there are good prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted the favorable geographical location of Gomel Oblast, its significant industrial capacity and highly qualified employees. This is evidenced by the success of the enterprises with German capital that operate in the free economic zone “Gomel-Raton”.
