Improvement in Belarus-EU relations is evident, Sergei Martynov says

Improvement of the relations between Belarus and the European Union must not and cannot damage the relations with Russia and vice versa, Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov said in an interview to the First TV Channel, BelTA informs. According to Sergei Martynov, three issues topped the agenda of the recent EU Troika meeting: mutual relations and efforts by both the sides to improve them, regional cooperation in the light of improving relations and collaboration in economy and energy. “As for the first issue, the improvement of the relations, in my view, is evident for everyone. The atmosphere of the relations is changing. It is increasingly important that the two sides do not view this process as unilateral. Belarus has always emphasized it does not beg for cooperation, it offers cooperation, first of all, in the areas mutually beneficial for the EU and Belarus,” the Minister said. The second issue agreed by the sides is that the tendency towards improvements in the relations between the EU and Belarus meets mutual interests. The relations should not be improved at the expense of relations of Belarus with other partners. “Belarus’ relations with Europe must not and cannot be improved at the expense of the relations with Russia and vice versa. The goal of these efforts is that in the long run Europe should become truly united, that it cooperates in the economic, humanitarian and other areas on an egalitarian basis,” Sergei Martynov said.
