Lukashenko lays flowers at abandoned villages’ monument

NAROVLYA, 26 April (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko laid a flower basket at the abandoned villages’ monument in Narovlya, BelTA has learned. The monument was built in 1994. It consists of three steles on a low pedestal. The first stele symbolizes a block house where people lived before the catastrophe. The central hand-shaped stele symbolizes Chernobyl clean-up workers’ hands. The third stele consists of three picked spires which mark eternal memory of the Chernobyl disaster, an appeal to prevent such catastrophes in future, and confidence that life must go on no matter what. Names of 36 abandoned villages of Narovlya District are engraved at the bottom of the sculpture.
