Lukashenko: private business needs more vigor

ZASLAVL, 10 May (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has urged private business to show more vigor as he visited the Coswick company in Zaslavl on 10 May, BelTA has learnt. Alexander Lukashenko suggested that the head of the foreign company should consider a possibility to set up a similar production facility in any other place of Belarus. The President underlined that the state is ready to participate in the process. At the same time, the President demanded more efforts from the local authorities to encourage entrepreneurs to invest in new productions. The head of state called for increasing the use of local raw materials. The Coswick foreign enterprise was set up with the help of Canadian investments, and is a manufacturer of parquet and flooring from oak and ash. The Coswick massive floors were introduced to the market in 1995. Roundwood which the company uses to manufacture flooring is harvested during sanitary cuttings, which does not lead to a reduction of oak and ash forests. The company works closely with local organizations advocating protection and sustainable development of the environment and forests. The waste in the form of sawdust and scraps is recycled: either partially burned in the boiler to heat the premises, or converted into briquettes and pellets which are used as fuel for heating homes. In January-March this year the company manufactured products worth Br10.2 billion, which was up 72.4% as against the same period last year. In 2011 the company is set to produce at least Br48 billion worth of goods. The company also plans to expand into new markets of the CIS countries. The exports in 2011 are expected in the amount of not less than $10 million. Coswick operates an extensive dealer network throughout the world and sells its products into Canada, United States, UK, Greece, Germany, Baltic States, Russia and others. Alexander Lukashenko took a tour of the gluing, finishing and packing shops, and visited an exhibition of finished products.
