Lukashenko: Speak the truth instead of slinging dirt at others

MIR, 16 December (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko advises his opponents to speak the truth instead of slinging dirt at others. Alexander Lukashenko made the relevant statement as he visited Mir Castle on 16 December. “Guilty mind is never at ease. They should try speaking about themselves and about how the incumbent president pulled some of them out of jail. People would be much more interested in hearing that. I am not going to explain myself but they should say exactly where, how much and why when they reproach people,” said the Belarusian head of state. “All this dirt is revolting. I am sometimes surprised by my ability to endure it. Well I try not to watch all this dirt on television but I get reports, letters, and information. I had to read them and get to know them. It is not me but my mother who is more saddened by what she gets to hear about her son. When one reproaches people, one should understand that it is not only me who can endure all of it somehow. I have children, my mother, who see it, and there are people who trust me. It is painful for them”. “May god be their judge. In time we will reveal all about them. A lot,” said Alexander Lukashenko. As an example the Belarus President referred to promises of a presidential hopeful to raise pensions by reducing the staff of the Belarus Presidential Property Management Directorate. “People don’t know that the Belarus Presidential Property Management Directorate employs only 70 people. If we sack them or reduce their numbers, will you be able to raise pensions for people much? They lie.” Alexander Lukashenko continued, “They say ‘Let’s get rid of the president’s funds’. The president has only the fund to support talented children and youth and the reserve fund in the state budget. If something happens, like when half of Russia got burned down, where will we get money from? Therefore, as a judicious man I’ve always kept this reserve in the state budget. It gets approved by the parliament, by the law,” said the Belarus President. Nothing will come out of getting rid of these funds. “But people don’t know it. People think that the funds are in the president’s pocket or in some sacks that I’ve stolen from people. We can get rid of these funds. But how will we support talented children?” “If people don’t know these facts, the dirt can be used to smudge the president. ‘If we get rid of all of it, we will live better. Everyone will get preferences.’ Utter lies!” stressed the Belarusian head of state. He continued, “Don’t worry about me. You will never feel shame for me. Dirt will not stick to a decent man”.
