Minsk to host Cinema Perpetuum Mobile festival 13-18 January

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – An international video-art festival Cinema Perpetuum Mobile will take place in Minsk on 13-18 January, BelTA learnt from the organizers of the event. Apart from competition projects, there will be demonstrated animation and children’s films, student works, including those of the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. The festival events will be held at the National Art Museum, the Rubin Plaza art cinema, the Museum of Cinema History, the Palace of Arts, and the Shchemelev Art Gallery. The festival received more than 190 films from 35 countries including Russia, the USA, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, Israel, India, Australia and other countries. According to the organizers, Cinema Perpetuum Mobile can be named a festival-cinema-cooperation between independent filmmakers. Its participants shoot mini movies highlighting the theme “Perpetuum mobile”. The festival includes other nominations: Perpetuum Arts, Perpetuum Idea, Perpetuum Vita, Perpetuum Adversi and Perpetuum Libertas. “Cultural diversity is one of the goals of the festival. Another one is the Belarusian cinema advancement,” the organizing committee stressed. Video art is a type of modern art which relies on moving pictures and comprises video and/or audio data. As opposed to music clips or TV commercials, video art productions are not commercial. They mostly cater for a sophisticated audience.
