More toll roads in Belarus possible

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – The number of toll roads in Belarus may increase, representatives of the road construction and maintenance department Belavtodor of the Belarusian Transport and Communication Ministry told BelTA. The Ministry is considering the possibility of introducing road tolls in the Pukhovichi-Bobruisk section of the motorway M5 Minsk-Gomel. The section is being rebuilt now using loans of the World Bank. The reconstruction is supposed to end in summer 2013. The loan agreement provides for introducing road toll using modern technologies. The Belarusian side is now busy choosing the company to do it. Negotiations are underway, including negotiations with an Austrian company, said the source. For now Belarus has one toll road: M1/E30 Brest-Minsk-border with the Russian Federation. BelTA reported earlier that there are plans to use a Chinese loan to rebuild another part of the M5 motorway, namely the Zhlobin-Gomel section. There are also plans to rebuild the Bobruisk-Zhlobin section of the M5 motorway.
