MINSK, February 20 (BelTA) – The National Council for Labour and Social Issues has affirmed a plan of action of the Belarusian government to implement the recommendations articulated in the Report of the Commission of Inquiry “Trade Union Rights in Belarus” of the International Labour Organization (ILO). This decision was adopted at a session of the National Council for Labour and Social Issues on February 20. Labour and Social Protection Minister Vladimir Potupchik noted that the government, trade unions and employers’ associations are taking sustained effort to hold a constructive dialogue with the International Labour Organization. On January 21 Minsk hosted a seminar to discuss the fulfillment of the recommendations adopted by the Commission of Inquiry in 2004. Taking part in the session were senior officials and representatives of the International Labour Organization, the International Trade Union Confederation and the International Organization of Employers. The representatives of the international organizations positively evaluated the work of the seminar. They praised the sincerity and interest demonstrated by the representatives of the Belarusian government, trade unions and employers. The plan of action to fulfill the ILO recommendations was adopted and unanimously approved by the seminar participants. “It is the first document that specifies a set of measures to fulfill the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry which is supported both by the social partners inside the country and international structures. The commitment we made is consequential for the further development of cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the International Labour Organization,” Vladimir Potupchik said. The International Labour Office is to present information on this seminar and the plan of action of the Belarusian government at a session to be held in Geneva in March 2009.
