New bleached pulp factory in Svetlogorsk to occupy 70 hectares

GOMEL, 3 September (BelTA) – The Gomel oblast executive committee took a decision to allocate land for the construction of a sulfated bleached pulp factory in Svetlogorsk. Its production capacities will occupy 70 hectares, BelTA has learnt. The decision gives a start to the implementation of one of the biggest investment projects in the region. As early as 2015 the factory’s output capacity is expected to reach 400,000 tonnes of sulfated bleached pulp per annum. Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Plant has signed a construction contract with China CAMC Engineering Company (CAMCE). The total investments required will be almost $864 million. The plant will be Belarus’ first manufacturer of bleached pulp which is used to produce letter paper, sanitary and hygienic products as well as for power and chemical industry. The world demand for sulfated bleached pulp has been steadily increasing. Its production will help replace the import of bleached pulp in the country and give an opportunity to export it: Belarus’ needs in bleached pulp are 200,000 tonnes per year. According to specialists, a new factory will meet all international environmental safety requirements. According to the presidential press service, the head of state signed decree No. 391 to regulate the construction of a sulfated bleached pulp factory on 30 August.
