MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian enterprise Belgeologia has found a new oil deposit in Kalinkovichi District, Gomel Oblast, BelTA learned from Yaroslav Gribik, Belgeologia Deputy Director General, Chief Geologist for Oil and Gas.
The new deposit was found during a test run of the prospecting borehole Novokazanskaya 2,600 meters below the surface in the upper layer of the subsalt carbonate deposits. The preliminary estimation has put the oil influx of the borehole at 10 cubic meters per day.
While the oil density is low (around 0.91-0.92 grams per cubic centimeter), it is advisable to continue geological exploration in the so-called Chervonoslabodskaya oil accumulation area. Belarusian geologists started examining the area a while ago. In the near future they plan to step up prospecting in this area and find new oil deposits.
This year the enterprise is supposed to increase commercial oil reserves by 400,000 tonnes or as much as in 2010. Geological exploration will continue in the Pripyat deflection, the North Pripyat shoulder and the Orsha deflection. The geologists have high hopes for the Shatilkovskaya area, Svetlogorsk District, where oil deposits were detected at the end of 2010.
Search for and recovery of oil is envisaged by the state program designed to guide geological exploration for the development of Belarus’ mineral resources base till 2020. The document provides for increasing the national potential of fuel and energy resources, exploration and preparation of new deposits of construction materials and other nonmetallic resources for commercial development. Among other goals the document provides for region-based geological exploration of the country to assess the territory for the availability of mineral resources.
All in all, 75 oil deposits have been found in Belarus. Of them 59 ones are being used. The largest ones are about to be depleted.
The enterprise Belgeologia performs geological exploration of all kinds of mineral resources, registers and monitors mineral resources. Together with the Geology Department of the Energy Ministry the enterprise performs forward planning of geological exploration.
