Over 40 logistics centers under construction in Belarus

RAKOV, 25 July (BelTA) – Over 40 logistics centers are being built in Belarus, First Deputy Trade Minister Alexander Zabello told reporters on 23 July, BelTA has learnt. Belarus’ logistics program to run until 2015 was studied by the Presidium of the Council of Ministers in June. On 23 July Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich was briefed on the state of efforts to construct one of the biggest transport and logistics centers in the town of Rakov, Volozhin District (BelVingesLogistic) and the logistics complex of the Twenty Four company located in the village of Tabory, Minsk District. About 50 land plots were allocated to build logistics centers. Most of them are located in Minsk Oblast. At present the program developers are considering the replacement of the unclaimed land plots by those where construction works have already started. The First Deputy Trade Minister emphasized that the development of logistics centers is among Belarus’ priorities; it will allow increasing commodity transit via the country, create new jobs, and increase foreign currency revenues. Belarus has an advantageous geographical position; the Customs Union will offer additional opportunities, too. “The country can earn a lot of foreign currency revenues. The Belarusian Premier toured the logistics facilities in Minsk Oblast to meet with investors and developers one more time, and identify issues impeding the expansion of the logistics system,” Alexander Zabello said. The first line of the transport and logistics center in Rakov is expected to be commissioned in September 2011. The founders of BelVingesLogistic are Vinges Terminalas, Alvora, Belintertrans. The ten-hectare construction site is located 25km away from Minsk near the Vilnius-Minsk highway of the international transport corridor IXB. The project envisages the construction of two warehouses with a total area of 29,000 square meters, including 2,800 square meters of office space. The second line is set to be completed in September 2012. About 120 jobs will be created here. The Twenty Four company is a 3-PL level logistics operator. It has signed a five-year lease agreement with the right to buy out the property (the investor and owner is the Belarusian company Premierleasing). The logistics operator provides warehouse facilities to store packaged and oversized goods, performs cargo-handling operations, processing, transportation and freight forwarding, customs paperwork. The complex includes A+ class warehouse facilities with a total area of 20,100 square meters, including 15,700 square meters for storing dry stock and 4,400 square meters of cold-storage warehouses (they are planned to become operational in December 2011).
